A temporary permit is necessary for a vehicle that travels to a state in which it is not registered under its IRP or IFTA. Vehicles exceeding its registered weight and size limitations must also hold a permit to enter a jurisdiction.

Trip Permits

Before entering a state in which the vehicle is not registered, a trip permit is necessary. It is a must for a driver to have a trip permit if he wants to travel through that state. This trip permit is given by a member jurisdiction to the driver or trucker in lieu of IRP credentials.

Fuel Permits

You must hold a temporary fuel permit when you travel to a location where your vehicle is not registered and does not have a license or a decal. You must have this fuel permit secured in your vehicle while you enter that particular jurisdiction.

Oversize and Overweight Permits

If your vehicle is oversize or exceeds the registered size and weight it will be categorized as an overweight vehicle and for this, you must obtain an authorized permit according to its configurations.
